Concrete Canoe

  • Mix Design Team

    • The mix design team is in charge of developing and testing different concrete mixes in order to create a canoe to be tested in the anual Great Lakes Regional Conference competition

    • Developing and testing takes place during the fall semester and is finished by the week before winter break

      • The mix design team designs, batches, and tests all mixes

    • The final concrete mix is:

      • Strong enough to withstand several different loads (such as for a 2-man race, 4-man race, and transportation) 

      • Lightweight 

      • Able to float

      • Environmentally-friendly

      • Workable

  • Construction Team

    • The construction team builds the mold for the canoe based off the final design made by the Mix Design Team

      • Experiments with different types of molding methods

      • Casts mini-canoes during spring semester in order to test new designs

    • Races canoe during the annual Great Lakes Regional Conference competition
